Dalam studi Filsafat Barat, sering disebut tentang linguistic turn (gilirannya Bahasa), yakni sebuah perkembangan di mana Bahasa menjadi dominan dalam studi filsafat dan humaniora di abad ke 20. Karenanya tidak heran kalua studi-studi yang relative lebih banyak terkait Indonesia Timur yang tersedia dalam publikasi ilmiah cenderung lebih banyak terkait Bahasa-bahasa daerah termasuk Alor dan Pantar dan segenap kelompoknya. Dalam konteks Alor, hal ini justru menjadi semacam ‘dominasi’ dalam studi ke-Alor-an dan ke-Pantar-an dalam dua dekade terakhir.
Dan trend penelitian NTT dalam 100 tahun terakhir memberikan kesan bahwa bahasa sebagai pembuka menuju memahami manusia NTT itu sendiri. Di Alor, studi bahasa menjadi sebuah celah yang di isi para akademisi Barat dari Jerman maupun Belanda dalam dua puluh tahun terakhir. Alor dan Pantar telah menjadi sebuah subjek penelitian dalam 80 tahun terakhir. Tentu ini dihitung sejak Cora Du Bois mempublikasikan bukunya The People of Alor (1944).
Berikut adalah daftar bibliografi Alor yang coba kami sediakan bagi para pembaca dan pemerhati NTT khususnya Alor. Seperti terlihat, sumber-sumber literatur tentang Alor terutama buku maupun peer-reviewed di dominasi oleh para penulis Barat. Meningkatnya jumlah anak-anak NTT yang bersekolah ke luar negeri dalam 7 tahun terakhir tidak banyak menyumbang pengetahuan baru tentang Alor. Semoga ada yang terpanggil untuk ini.
